AWARDS PURPOSE & MISSION: The purpose of the AHMP Awards Program is to recognize and honor individuals, chapters and organizations for outstanding contributions to education, training, research, organizational development, operations, and performance that further the objectives and the Vision-Mission-Strategy of the AHMP.
AHMP National Award Program
Within the AHMP National Awards Program there are two basic types of awards - individual and group awards. There are seven different individual awards and four group awards. Guidelines for submitting nominations for these awards are detailed below.

PETE COOK FOUNDERS AWARD
Given for distinguished service or achievement in support of the AHMP. This award will honor a peer nominated member of the AHMP who has made outstanding accomplishments in support of the AHMP, by providing long-term service or continuous professional achievements while promoting the vision & mission of the AHMP and the integrity of the CHMM credential. This award, which need not be given every year, will only be given to one AHMP member in the years when it is awarded. This award carries a lifetime exemption from AHMP dues. Nominate Now!

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGER OF THE YEAR
Given to an outstanding, peer nominated member of the AHMP (over the age of 35) who, during the previous year, has made outstanding accomplishments in the fields of Hazardous Materials Management or related aspects while promoting the vision & mission of the AHMP and the integrity of the CHMM credential. This award also recognizes that individual who has actually demonstrated skills in operations, planning, training & education. This award, which need not be given every year, will only be given to one AHMP member in the years when it is awarded. This award carries a one (1) year exemption from AHMP dues. Nominate Now!

CHAMPIONS OF EXCELLENCE AWARD
- Given to an outstanding, peer nominated member of the AHMP that completes at least five (5) of the following criteria. Note there is no limit on the number of Champion of Excellence nominations that may be made from a single chapter provided that a separate nomination is submitted for each person.
- Make a personal contact to introduce the philosophy of hazardous materials management or promote the CHMM credential to a member of Academia, Industry, Business, or Government
- Make a presentation to a Non-CHMM related group about issues relevant to hazardous materials management. Presentation of a CHMM Overview course or other license or certification review course will not fulfill this requirement.
- Bring a prospective AHMP member to a local Chapter meeting. Alternately, sponsor and/or otherwise aid a new local chapter of the AHMP.
- Serve in a leadership role as a Chapter or AHMP officer, board member, committee chair, or committee member.
- Write an article for the Chapter or AHMP newsletter. Alternately, publish an article in a local newspaper or technical journal about issues relevant to hazardous materials management or otherwise promote information on hazardous materials management and the CHMM credential.
- Make a presentation at a CHMM Overview course or other AHMP-approved credential certification or licensing review course, or develop or significantly revise any of the EHMM modules.
- Write a letter to a regulatory agency or an elected government official concerning proposed environmental regulations (must be signed as a CHMM and must include copy of letter with this application).
- Attend the AHMP National Conference.
- Present a paper at the AHMP National Conference or other conference on issues related to hazardous materials management. Nominate Now!

FRIEND OF THE ALLIANCE AWARD
(Non-CHMM)
The Board of Directors will select the recipient of this award. The selected individual will be recognized for his/her significant contributions to the CHMM credential or to the overall goals of the AHMP at a National Level in one of two ways:
- This award will be given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the goals and purpose of the AHMP (in a single year), or,
- Someone who has made long-term, sustained contributions (over a number of years) that makes a lasting positive impact on the AHMP programs.
This award shall not be for a single accomplishment on behalf of the AHMP, or a single job that is performed regularly for the Alliance. It will be given to an individual who is not a CHMM, nor in the process of becoming a CHMM. This award, which need not be given every year, will be given to only one individual in the years when it is awarded. Nominate Now!

UNSUNG HERO AWARD
The Unsung Hero Award is designed to recognize a CHMM or non-CHMM that has in some unique and significant way, contributed to his/her Chapter or the AHMP as a whole. It is broad in its reach and by design meant to recognize those not usually recognized through traditional awards criteria. The nominee, in order to be considered for the Unsung Hero Award, must have contributed skill, time, and effort towards furthering the Vision-Mission-Strategy of the AHMP, either at a Chapter or National level.
The nomination form must include a narrative that specifically delineates the reason for the nomination; demonstrates how the nominee’s actions support the Vision-Mission-Strategy of the AHMP and explains why the individual is an Unsung Hero. This award, which need not be given every year, will only be given to one individual in the years when it is awarded. Nominate Now!

Group Awards
Each Group award nomination must be signed by the Chapter President and at least one additional chapter officer.
CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
To be eligible for the Chapter of the Year, the nominated Chapter must meet the requirements of Honor Roll of Champions. The Chapter of the Year Award will be given for that chapter which has achieved the best-combined accomplishments in the areas of:
- Percent of new member recruitment;
- Presentation of a successful CHMM overview course;
- Percent of meaningful membership service activities;
- Number and scope of mentoring activities; and,
- Number and scope of credential promotion activities during the previous calendar year

HONOR ROLL OF CHAMPIONS
The Chapter President will confirm the successful completion of the following five (5) required criteria and any five (5) optional criteria to earn a place as an Honor Roll of Champions chapter:
Optional
- Identify and publicly recognize at least one CHMM as an Individual Champion of Excellence by publication in a newsletter, website, issuance of media releases, or equivalent public acknowledgement.
- Sponsor a CHMM Overview course or other AHMP-approved credential certification or licensing review course.
- Support a chapter member's participation on a National Committee through subsidizing expenses to attend board meetings, national conference or other such valued resources.
- Promote the purchase of materials from the AHMP in the Chapter Newsletter or on the Chapter Website.
- Verify that at least 60% of the chapter members who are CHMMs have current AHMP dues paid (details of membership - number of members and number of members with AHMP dues paid must be included).
Optional
- Sponsor and/or otherwise aid the organization and chartering of a new chapter affiliate of AHMP.
- Sponsor or co-sponsor a regional chapter meeting on issues of hazardous materials management. Alternately, sponsor a one day chapter meeting on issues of hazardous materials management.
- Increase the chapter's membership by 10% over the previous year (membership information must be included).
- Publish chapter activities in the local media
- Host a public meeting or educational seminar on an issue relevant to the management of hazardous materials. Note: Presentation of a CHMM Overview course or other credential or licensing review course will not fulfill this requirement. Nor will regularly scheduled Chapter meetings, unless specifically advertised to the general public.
- For small chapters (chapters with fewer than 75 members), demonstrate that, in any given meeting, at least 50% of the chapter members were present (membership information must be included).
- Publicly recognize at least one member who has published a technical paper or recognize those local CHMMs or AHMP members who received their college or university diploma during the year.
- Publicly recognize a government official who demonstrates a clear understanding of sound environmental management principles.
- Perform a public outreach program to enhance the principles of hazardous materials management, i.e., a high school hazmat inventory and inspection, or assisting with a hazardous material recycling day in the community.

The Chapter must successfully complete five (5) of the following required criteria and any seven (7) optional criteria to be eligible for the Chapter Website Award. The use of a single event to cover multiple requirements is not permitted, except for the publication of chapter activities in the local media.

CHAPTER NEWSLETTER AWARD
This award will recognize the successful AHMP Chapter for the publishing of a professional and quality Newsletter. The Chapter that receives this award will produce a Newsletter with an excellent appearance. In addition, the Newsletter will promote the CHMM credential and distribute key information on Chapter activities. The selected Newsletter will publicize professional development opportunities and provide other interesting and/or relevant news to members. To be eligible for this award, the Chapter will submit past Newsletter issues along with a completed Nomination Form.
Specific content criteria for evaluation include:
- Information on the upcoming meetings
- Profiles on a Chapter member(s)
- CHMM-community events and involvement
- Professional development opportunities
- Regulatory information
- Chapter officer and chair contact information
Specific appearance and distribution criteria include:
- Overall publication look
- Balanced and interesting articles
- Utilization of pictures
- Method of delivery

SPONSOR APPRECIATION AWARD

This award may be given to a private corporation, public agency, non-profit organization and/or educational institution
In line with our Awards Committee Mission Statement, this award, or group of awards, is to recognize outstanding support by an outside entity in advancing the objectives of the Alliance. This may include one or more of the following:
- Public acknowledgment and promotion of CHMM credential
- Significant financial support or contribution of services for Alliance activities based on company size and/or number of individuals or events supported
- Sponsorship of events and activities that enhance the CHMM credential
- Support the activities of local chapter or national organization
