CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Individuals, organizations and companies are invited to submit abstracts for AHMP 2009 on topics of interest to EHS&S, hazardous materials and waste management professionals.

The 2009 Conference – focused on Sustainability – offers you the unique opportunity to present new ideas, share valuable professional experiences and case studies, and explore recent developments, emerging issues, regulatory updates and trends in environmental health, safety, security and hazardous materials management.

AHMP encourages abstracts from federal, state and local agencies; first responders; engineers; scientists; project managers; military staff; college and university students; and EHS managers in all areas related to hazardous materials.

Anyone can present. It is not necessary to be a member of AHMP to attend or present at the conference.

Notification of acceptance: March 2, 2009


Abstract Submission Procedure

Individuals, organizations and companies desiring to present papers at the conference are encouraged to submit an abstract of up to 250 words, along with a 50-word author/presenter biography. Abstracts will be considered for a 30-minute presentation or an interactive poster session. A limited number of roundtables or panel discussions may be offered.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically. The abstract (limited to 250 words in length) must include clearly delineated scope/objectives, methods, developments/results and conclusions. The following information is required to complete the online form:

  • Title of presentation
  • Three to five keywords
  • Name of the track that best represents your paper
  • Contact person’s name, title, organization, address, telephone and e-mail address
  • 50-word author/presenter biography

Evaluation of the abstract will determine acceptance for presentation at the conference.

    Analytical methods, electronic waste/RoHS and California EWRA-performance-based versus command-and control regulation/beyond-compliance incentives
  7. New and Emerging Technologies/Fossil Fuel Alternatives - Challenges for Development & Management
    Cutting-edge ideas and technologies for hazardous waste minimization or treatment/energy source sustainability, nuclear energy, environmental issues of wind energy, fuel cells and other alternative energy strategies
  8. International & Global Issues/Developing Countries/Native American Perspectives
    Issues unique to international commerce, regulatory issues outside the U.S., working in developing countries, lessons learned abroad, Native American cultural impacts, Native American projects in sustainability and green initiatives


Session Formats

Varied sessions are planned for the AHMP 2009 Technical Program. These include moderated Technical Sessions with three to four speakers, Poster Sessions and Facilitated Panel Discussions/Roundtables.



Evaluation Criteria

Abstracts will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Pertinence (20%) The submission adheres to conference subject matter.
Completeness (20%) The submission adheres to submission standards of required content and length (clearly delineated objectives, scope, developments and conclusions).
Timeliness (15%) The submission resonates with current industry events and developments.
Originality (15%) The submission presents cutting-edge material or recent lessons learned.
Applicability (15%) The submission appeals to a broad segment of attendees.
Technical merit (15%) The submission is technically sound and not strictly a commercial endorsement of a company, product or service.


Publication

Abstracts, papers or presentations may be included in conference materials and on the AHMP Web site.
