Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Professionals…

You are invited to attend and take part in the 2009 Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals™ (AHMP) National Conference. The AHMP National Conference, formerly the ACHMM National Conference, is the environmental health, safety, security (EHS&S), hazardous materials and waste management industry’s leading forum for national and international information exchange and networking – still going strong in its 22nd year!

From August 30 to September 2, 2009 in San Diego, we will focus in particular on the conference theme, “EHS&S — Steering a Course for Sustainability,” as we lead into the future and

  • discuss the most pressing issues facing EHS&S professionals today.
  • hear from top keynoters about professional strategies and industry leaders about the newest EHS&S regulations, advances and technologies.
  • share best practices and learn from one another how to deal most effectively with daily and extraordinary challenges.

You will

  • glean fresh ideas that you can implement in your own operations.
  • meet colleagues at events, form and renew alliances, and discover new resources in our Exhibit Hall.
  • earn your certification points most conveniently.
  • learn to become more effective at your job and take your career to new heights.

San Diego offers an extraordinary opportunity for AHMP to convene in an area where EHS&S professionals are seasoned by disaster and experienced in emergency response to wildfires, storm water challenges, proximity to the border, drug traffic and occupational safety-related factors involving major military bases and construction projects. In incisive sessions, you will hear it all; on insider tours, you will see it first-hand.

Green AHMP 2009 Cuts Waste, Protects the Environment

In 2009, AHMP will continue its industry-leading “Going Green Conference” initiative as part of our comprehensive Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (QEHS) policy. Under this policy, AHMP works to meet standards and processes it established to minimize the environmental impact of our meetings by both attendees and the organization. Our overarching goal is to protect the environment and prevent wasteful practices at AHMP events.

For example, the “Printed & Other Materials” section mandates a series of guidelines that minimize the use of paper and harmful inks, require the use of recycled paper and two-sided document printing, and more. To achieve these objectives calls for greater use of electronic communications in advertising, promotion, registration and confirmation processes; recycling name badge holders; and reusing signs when possible. It also calls on sponsors, exhibitors and other groups to use recycled paper, not use fluorescent and glossy papers, and upload electronic copies of meeting materials to the conference Web site or jump drive.

Other prominent features of the initiative include, for example, helping the host hotel establish food composting (Food & Beverage Functions) and recycling programs (Onsite Facilities) if these are not in place and collecting unused exhibitor giveaway items that have a practical purpose to donate to local shelters or schools (Exhibit Hall/Exhibitors).
