Green AHMP 2009 Cuts Waste, Protects the EnvironmentIn 2009, AHMP will continue its industry-leading “Going Green Conference” initiative as part of our comprehensive Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (QEHS) policy. Under this policy, AHMP works to meet standards and processes it established to minimize the environmental impact of our meetings by both attendees and the organization. Our overarching goal is to protect the environment and prevent wasteful practices at AHMP events. For example, the “Printed & Other Materials” section mandates a series of guidelines that minimize the use of paper and harmful inks, require the use of recycled paper and two-sided document printing, and more. To achieve these objectives calls for greater use of electronic communications in advertising, promotion, registration and confirmation processes; recycling name badge holders; and reusing signs when possible. It also calls on sponsors, exhibitors and other groups to use recycled paper, not use fluorescent and glossy papers, and upload electronic copies of meeting materials to the conference Web site or jump drive. Other prominent features of the initiative include, for example, helping the host hotel establish food composting (Food & Beverage Functions) and recycling programs (Onsite Facilities) if these are not in place and collecting unused exhibitor giveaway items that have a practical purpose to donate to local shelters or schools (Exhibit Hall/Exhibitors). | |||||||||||||
